TOra 2.1.3 with Teradata support
9/25/2010The latest TOra release is out. There are lots of bug fixes from the team and some new features. Download from Sourceforge .
Although I haven't had as much time as I would like to work TOra, I did add Teradata support. I've had to use this database recently and SQL Assistant is... well... If you have used it, then you know it can be awkward. The native version appears to be Windows-only, while the Java version is based on Eclipse and is pretty big and slow.
The Teradata support in TOra should be considered alpha quality. The worksheet and most of the schema browser are fully-functional, but there are several tools that I don't yet have SQL to cover. It's a new database to me. Besides that, it is very stable. It won't eat your database or anything, it's just that some of the tools aren't complete yet.
First, you'll need to download the Teradata libraries. Go to the download center , click CLI and click your platform. Download the latest CLIv2 package for your platform, making sure that the download contains cliv2, tdicu and teragss packages. Some of them don't. Right now it looks like TTU 13.10 LINUX INDEP cliv2.13.10.00.03 is the latest complete package.
Install the rpm packages in the tarball. If you're on Ubuntu, then use alien to convert the packages. It works flawlessly.
Next, configure using --with-teradata
. If you've installed the rpms, then the
configure script should find them automatically.
